Hoyas Helping Hoyas: GradGov’s $10,000 Donation to the Hoya Hub
By Priyasha Chakravarti
GradGov has donated $10,000 to the Hoya Hub to support food security initiatives led by and for the Georgetown student community in 2026. The Hoya Hub originated as an initiative of Georgetown University’s Center for Social Justice (CSJ).
“GradGov’s support for the Hoya Hub food pantry and the Center for Social Justice has become more intentional and consistent over the past few years. What began as ad hoc contributions has evolved into dedicated, recurring budget support, ensuring reliable resources for non-discretionary needs,” said Kavin Sakthivel, the GradGov President.
This donation to the Hoya Hub was facilitated by the GradGov Advocacy Branch, in partnership with the Senate and Presidential Cabinet. The food pantry initiative supports any Georgetown community member experiencing food insecurity. Its mission is simple: No Hoya Goes Hungry. The pantry is frequently stocked with fresh non-perishable items for those who may need a meal on an emergency basis.
“It is open 24/7, and there is no requirement to be able to enter the pantry besides a working GoCard. Inside, you will be able to find a variety of foods, including pasta and pasta sauce, canned soup and vegetables, as well as a variety of snack items,” said Maciek Stojko, Hoya Hub Student Coordinator.
The Hoya Hub was launched in 2018 as a university-funded food pantry. It is managed by the Division of Student Affairs but does not always receive adequate university-wide promotion and funding. It is often student volunteers, clubs, and initiatives at the undergraduate and graduate level to fill this gap.
“Our partnership with Gradgov is a large part of the reason that we were able to open a new Hoya hub on the capital campus in order to better serve the graduate student community. Given recent funding cuts to the CSJ, Gradgov donations have helped us a great deal, and once again, I would like to show my gratitude,” Stojko said.
This semester, the Hoya Hub has become its own program, gained many new members, and opened up a new location at the Capitol Campus. The Hoya Hub at the Hilltop Campus is located on the fourth floor of the Leavey Center (Room 418), and the Hoya Hub at the Capitol Campus is located at 111 Massachusetts Avenue, Room LL401.

“Food security is a basic need — and for many graduate students, it’s not always guaranteed. Between rising living costs, layoffs, unemployment, high grocery prices, limited stipends, family responsibilities, and even gaps in nutrition education, accessing consistent and nutritious food can be a challenge. Supporting the Hoya Food Pantry is one way GradGov helps remove that burden so students can focus on their academic, professional, and personal growth,” said Monica Davila, the GradGov VP of Advocacy.
The Hoya Hub also works alongside the Georgetown Harvest Garden to provide fresh vegetables, and alongside the Health Education Services to provide emergency health products.
“The HoyaHub is the epitome of hoyas for others, with our team working tirelessly to help support other Hoyas on the Georgetown campus. I’m proud every time I enter the HoyaHub and see a student utilizing it, knowing we are helping their Georgetown experience not be composed of memories of not knowing what they would eat,” Stojko said.

“To fellow Hoyas: the message is simple, this is a resource worth knowing, using, and supporting. Engagement can take many forms: accessing the pantry when needed, contributing financially to help stock essential items, encouraging peers to use the resource without stigma, or volunteering time and energy to keep it running smoothly. Every action strengthens a program dedicated to ensuring that no Hoya goes hungry,” Sakthivel said.
