Georgetown Initiative for Open Science

Georgetown Initiative for Open Science seeks to promote open science among researchers, practitioners, students, and anyone else who is interested. To raise awareness of reproducibility and fair data enactment in science and practice, we will aim to provide theoretical and practical resources and education, on topics including contemporary research methods, critical evaluation of information, and social issues. Our organization will be strongly based on the values of integrity, transparency, and openness to ensure successful implementation of Open Science practices.

Women in Public Policy Initiative

Women in Public Policy Initiative is a student organization at Georgetown University committed to nurturing outstanding leaders in public policy, supporting women and gender minorities in this field, and advancing a feminist perspective across policies. We work to raise awareness about issues affecting these groups, increase their presence in policy discussions, and foster a safe, inclusive community. Our activities include events like speaker series, panel discussions, networking, mentorship, and workshops, open to all Georgetown students, irrespective of their background.

The SFS Committee on China is an organization dedicated to studying China’s geo-political and strategic relationships from an objective, diverse and nonpartisan perspective. We encourage dialogue, analysis, and debate on the most pressing issues impacting China both domestically and internationally. We encourage members to gain a deeper understanding on how this great power is already shaping our 21st century and beyond.

Georgetown Anti-Poverty Society

The Georgetown Anti-Poverty Society is one of the school’s most active graduate student organizations, with a mission to create a community of students and practitioners interested in learning about cutting-edge topics in International Development. In the previous semester alone, we’ve helped bring to campus practitioners from the World Bank, African, Asian and Inter-American Development Banks, UNDP, Dalberg Consulting, FHI 360, Migration Policy Institute, GlobalGiving, JPMorgan Chase, DAI, Omidyar Network, government officials from a lot of countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Peru, Latvia, US, and many many more.

Georgetown University Wargaming Society

The Georgetown University Wargaming Society (GUWS) was founded in 2020 to provide a venue for hobby gamers, professional wargamers, and those new to wargaming with opportunities to play games and learn more about wargaming as a profession. GUWS runs game nights, professional development events, and provides academic and professional resources for those interested in a wargaming career. We also provide a digital drive of resources for wargamers, including wargaming manuals, articles, and tactical decision games shared by members of our network. Thanks to generous donations from the wargaming community, we currently have a library of over 100 wargames.

Georgetown Social Innovation Lab

The Georgetown Social Innovation Lab is an annual pitch competition held at Georgetown University in the spring semester. GSIL gathers students to form teams and come up with innovative solutions to a pressing global problem. This year’s topic is ‘Sustainable Cities’. GSIL is a unique opportunity for students to interact with practitioners, engage in human-centered design in action, and launch their own social ventures.

Georgetown Systems Medicine Club

Systems Medicine Club is established for the purpose of developing leadership skills and educating students about the impact that systems medicine can have on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare through the utilization of Omics technology. The Systems Medicine Club is also dedicated to facilitating a safe and inclusive environment to “hot” and “new” topics in the medical and research field. The club will also bring in experts to present their research and share their experiences in order to address outstanding issues and provide the opportunity for students to inquire about entering that career field. We also foster community service by promoting volunteer opportunities and participating in at least one club volunteer activity each semester.

Georgetown’s English Graduate Student Association counts all enrolled MA English students as its members. EGSA’s elected board represents the interests of graduate students by serving as liaisons to the faculty, administration, and the student body at large and takes responsibility for providing opportunities for our students to develop and share their work as scholars.
