Anthony Mitchell hails from the home of crawfish boils, Jazz music, King Cake, and world-famous Café Du Monde: New Orleans, Louisiana! As a NOLA native, Anthony has matriculated into an accomplished senior government affairs professional with more than a decade of cross-sector experience managing public-private partnership development, federal lobbying, public policy strategy and external stakeholder relations.
After traveling abroad to multiple countries, working in local government in Pittsburgh, and spending time at the nation’s capital, Anthony became encouraged to pursue his desire to shape policy and actively address inequalities in our country. Currently, Anthony serves as Vice President of Federal Affairs at America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) where he works to make health care better and to help create a space where coverage is more affordable and accessible for everyone. Just before that, he served as Senior Policy Manager at Lyft, where his focus was to improve people’s lives with the world’s best ransportation – including through transit and micromobility. Further, he served in the Executive Office of Mayor Muriel Bowser
(DC), where his main priority was to build bridges from government resources, services, and information to residents of the District of Columbia on behalf of the Mayor. Just before that, he served in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, where he advised Members of Congress and worked on policies related to healthcare, education, transportation, civil rights, and more.
Anthony has been recognized as a leader amongst peers and colleagues as well as featured in podcasts, magazines, blogs, and panels, but he believes his greatest achievement is being able to give back to his community. As a proud alumnus of many reputable institutions – including the Pennsylvania State University, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and National TRIO Alumn
